For the past few years Texas Southern University has been experiencing a Renaissance of Excellence that continues to solidify its position as a college of first choice for more and more of the nation’s best and brightest students.

During the University’s 85th Anniversary, we released the Our Story Project which shares the stories behind the story of Texas Southern’s trans-generational acclaim.  Yet, the book is far from closed on TSU.  Situated in Houston, the city that has been cited as the most reflective of the nation’s growing diversity, Texas Southern finds itself in the perfect position for even more phenomenal growth.  Firmly planted within Houston’s historic Third Ward community, Texas Southern is just minutes away from the most revered energy corridor in the world, and the internationally renowned Texas Medical Center.  TSU is also ground zero for some of the most exciting research opportunities in the country.

Texas Southern boasts a thriving freshman experience that will only improve with the opening of the $55 million, 215,000 square feet Resident Housing Complex—an 800-bed freshman facility scheduled to be completed by July 2014. Adding to the dynamism of the TSU experience are its cutting edge programs, including degree offerings in Maritime Transportation Management and Security, Aviation Science, Urban Planning, and Entertainment and Recording Industry Management, just to name a few—academic programs that meet the real-world needs.

And thanks to a re-energized philanthropic community, scholarship offerings for promising students are at an all-time high, putting a world-class college education within reach at Texas Southern, the fourth largest historically black college or university (HBCU) in the country.

In addition, Texas Southern continues to resonate in ever-expanding international circles.   For, not only has the University been at the forefront of preparing for the dynamic changes in this nation’s demographics,  TSU today has more global points of contact than ever before.  Case in point; Texas Southern was chosen as one of only three sites in the state of Texas, and the only one in Houston, to house the prestigious Confucius Institute—an entity aimed at developing academic and cultural programs related to Chinese language and cultures.  This partnership with TSU, the Chinese government, and Beijing Jiaotong University, exemplifies the University’s willingness to grow as a global player, and to prepare its students for global marketplace success.

I invite you to join us as we write the next chapter in Texas Southern University’s incredible story—one that will celebrate our ongoing success in providing a 21st century education for our students, and a difference-making impact to the world.
