Distance Learning Services

The library has primary responsibility for making its resources and services available to its users regardless of physical location. Therefore, the library identifies, develops, coordinates, implements, and assesses these resources and services. "The library's program must be designed to meet not only standard informational and skills development needs but also the unique needs of the distance community" - as approved by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Board of Directors, July 1, 2008.

The Robert James Terry Library adheres to the ACRL Standards for Distance Learning Library Servicesand provides a number of resources,  services, andsupport designed to meet the research needs of the distance learning community.

Off campus access to most of the electronic resources (databases, eBooks, eJournals) are available to current TSU students, faculty, and staff. You may access an electronic resource from FindArticles & Moreon the Catalogs and Databases page  where you will be prompted to log in with your last name and T Number. Databases listed as Free Access are freely available to anyone and do not require a login.  Your authorization will remain in place until you close your browser.

The RJT Library maintains access to three major e-Book collections. Other titles are represented in the catalog.

eBook Collection (EBSCO Provides access to EBSCOhost eBook Collection of more than 28,000 electronic books covering a wide variety of subject disciplines.  Formerly known as NetLibrary. 

 STATRef– contains more than 70 eBooks related to the health sciences.

Gale Virtual Reference Library –is a database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.

Borrowing Materials

Charge Out, Renewal and Document Delivery Services (Interlibrary Loan) (ILL)

Books from the Terry library’s circulating collection that are needed will be available to registered users. Reference, journals, and Special Collection materials do not circulate. Document delivery services include journal articles and other materials. Complete an ILL Form.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) from other libraries

Books and journal articles not owned by Robert James Terry Library are borrowed from other local, regional, national and international libraries. Complete an ILL Form.

TexShare Card Program

The TexShare Card Program is a state-wide resource sharing program.  Policies of participating libraries must be followed. Current registered library patrons are eligible for a TexShare Card. The Card can be used at all participating institutions within the state of Texas. Student users are updated each semester and faculty/staff each academic year (Sept.Aug.). Complete a TexShare Card Request Form.

Telephone assistance is available to users. The Reference Department provides staff that will assist with any questions users may have.  Circulation Staff will assist with questions related to patron registration, update, and borrowing.

Bibliographic Instruction

The goal of the bibliographic instruction program is designed to teach the library user how to quickly locate, evaluate and use information effectively. The methods used are one-on-one, by telephone, email, tutorials, and information literacy.

The Robert James Terry Library supports the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.   Information Literacy skills are an essential part of our library instruction program that infuses the essential components into all library lectures, guides, tutorials, library website and others. 

Database Tutorials

A number of tutorials are available for review and instruction. These tutorials instruct users how to use the specific electronic database. See list of tutorials available.

Subject Guides

A number of subject guides have been developed to assist users with resources related to a particular topic or discipline. These guides provide users with information on key resources that are going to be useful in retrieving information.
