As part of the desire of the current
administration to enhance research enterprise on the TSU campus,
the Research Unit of the Office of the Provost announces a new
initiative (URP) with the goal of early exposure of bright and
highly motivated undergraduate and professional students to
research. Under this initiative, a number of competitive
fellowships will be awarded on a yearly basis to students with
strong scholastic performance with evidence of commitment to
life-long learning and who show promise for developing a future
career in academia or research. The successful candidates will
participate in an eight (8) to ten (10)-week mentored research
experience during summer under TSU faculty with active research
projects. Activities during this fellowship will include
actual research, enrichment activities and field work as prescribed
by the faculty and approved by the Research Unit in the
Provost’s office. Successful applicants will be designated as
Undergraduate Research Fellows (URFs).
Students interested in this fellowship program should contact faculty who are committed to hosting the applicants by participating in their research projects for the duration of the fellowship.

Faculty interested in having students participate in their research projects should submit a proposal to the Office of Research and indicate any student(s) that they wish to be considered for the fellowship. A faculty may submit names of up to two (2) students for consideration.
Selection will be based on student’s credentials, personal statement and the faculty’s track record of research productivity and undergraduate student training.

download from the Office of Research web site. The deadline
for application is
April 23rd, 2010. Start date is June 1
st, 2010. Stipend is $2,500 for the summer
(or$10/hour).
