SB: TSU WINS SERIES OPENER AGAINST PVAMU

Texas Southern Yesenia Torres hits a walk off two-run home run to finish off interstate Prairie View 9-0 in six innings, at Memorial Park to open a three-game weekend series.

TSU Rebecca Villarreal got the start for the Lady Tigers, she got her fourth consecutive SWAC win on the season, and she allowed no runs on one hit and recorded two strikeouts. Villarreal improved her record to (6-3, 5-0 SWAC). Her era in SWAC play is an impressive 1.81, and completed all games she started in conference play.

Yesenia Torres had a good work day as she went 2-for-4 score once, three RBIs, and a monster home run, her fourth of the season. Tenesha Skrine went 2-for-3 scored a run and two RBIs.  Skrine and Torres have continued to step up for the Lady Tigers this season. They have combined for 35 runs, 75 hits, 58 RBIs, and six home runs. With their contribution TSU is ranked 14th in the nation, and leads in several offensive categories in the conference.

Jasmine Hutchinson also knocked in two runs, and Jessica Haynes stole three bases. TSU had a total of eight stolen bases to bring there season total to 83 stolen bases, the Lady Tigers are currently ranked 17th in the nation.

The lone hit for Prairie View came on a Kesha Hagerman single in the top of the fifth, past the outstretched arm of Jackie Valderaz. Villarreal retired the next six batters to close the contest.

Bri Coronado recorded the lost, she allow nine runs, on ten hits in 5.1 innings of work. She also recorded two strike-outs.

TSU snaps a three game skid, and improved their record to (18-22, 9-3 SWAC); PVAMU falls to (11-15, 4-8 SWAC). TSU Lady Tiger Softball returns to action on tomorrow as they conclude the series against Prairie View with a noon doubleheader at Memorial Park. TSU First Lady Dr. Dorcia Rudley, will throw out the first pitch to kick off the doubleheader.
