The project is expected to provide followings:

  • The Library Learning Center (LLC) is a state of the art $43 million project and a flagship building for TSU.
  • The LLC is 137,000 square ft., five stories and will hold 2,700 occupants.
  • This beacon to the community will be a hub for the students, faculty, urban programming, and provide areas for increasing research pursuits.
  • The new LLC will promote active learning; help inspire TSU students, and welcome alumni and the community to use the facility.

In preparation for the move into the new facility in 2019, some operations are being restructured and streamlined.

The Library Learning Center will utilize a business community model to manage inventory, making it easier for students to locate and borrow material to improve academic performance. Ease of access to information is anticipated to increase research activity for students and the TSU community. Texas Southern University, a member of Texshare, uses the TExpress program, a consortium that provides rapid resource-sharing services. Interlibrary loans and TExpress services will be located on the first floor, allowing borrowers to quickly retrieve requested materials.

ExLibris, the library management system, will be optimized, facilitating rapid access and more efficient data collection. Workstations, including networked printers, will be available throughout the library.

The New Library Working Group – comprised of faculty, staff, students and TSU community members – provided input that drove the design and content of the facility. The group was engaged through multiple surveys, town-hall meetings, hands-on examinations and rating exercises to assist in determining the library’s features. The Library Learning Center will house administrative offices, a boardroom, and other experiential areas.

Technology is the driving force to help our Library Learning Center become a destination of discovery.
