Office of Experiential Training

The Office of Experiential Training (OET) and Continuing Professional Education (CPE), in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Health Sciences (PPCHS), oversee the experiential training of all students in the professional programs within the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.   These programs include Clinical Laboratory Science, Environmental Health, Healthcare Administration (Bachelor), Healthcare Administration (Master), Health Information Management, Pharmacy, and Respiratory Therapy.

The office is headed by the Assistant Dean for Practice Programs, Internship Coordinators for Advances Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE), Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE), and Allied Health Practice Experiences (AHPE), accompanied by administrative support personnel.

The Experiential Training program is designed to provide experiential learning opportunities through supervised participation in healthcare practices. The rotations were developed in accordance with the mission and vision of Texas Southern University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Science Program and the guidelines set forth by each program’s accreditation body, i.e. including but not limited to the mandates of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. (NAACLS), National Environmental Health Sciences and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC), Association of University Programs in Healthcare Administration (AUPHA), Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), and Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (COARC).   Texas Southern University is a fully accredited institution by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professionals.

Healthcare continues to progress and be transformed.  Experiential practice experiences play a vital role for each of our programs by integrating didactic knowledge into skill-based practice and providing an opportunity to expose students to the many career opportunities available to each and every student.
