Dora B. Hodges Chapter of the Association for Childhood Education International
The Dora Hodges Chapter of the Association for Childhood Education International is open to all Human Services and Consumer Sciences majors and minors with a focus in Child Development and students who have an interest in the development and well being of children. The Dora Hodges Chapter of ACEI is an affiliate of the global Association for Childhood Education International organization. Members of this student organization participate in workshops, conferences and other events that benefit and expand knowledge about the education and development of children on the local, state, regional and national levels. Oddis Turner Dietetics Club
Named for the late Oddis C. Turner, Registered Dietitian and a former Chair of the Department of Human Services and Consumer Sciences, the Oddis Turner Dietetics Club is open to students who are pursuing degrees in dietetics and food and nutrition. The purpose of the club is to provide opportunities for dietetic and food and nutrition majors to further expand their knowledge of the dietetics/nutrition profession. A secondary purpose of the club is to provide a venue for dietetics and food and nutrition majors to explore careers and functions of the dietitian through community service and mentoring experiences. Additional information about membership and activities may be obtained by calling or visiting one of the Dietetic or Food and Nutrition professors.
Family and Consumer Sciences Club
The Family and Consumer Sciences Club is open to all Human Services and Consumer Sciences students. The club is designed to provide an outlet for students from all disciplines in Human Services and Consumer Sciences at Texas Southern University to come together as a group to share their experiences and engage in comprehensive volunteer, educational and social activities which serve to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families. HSCS Student Council
The HSCS Student Council is composed of student representatives in the various disciplines that make up the Department of Human Services and Consumer Sciences. The Council acts as an advisory group to the faculty and Chair of the Department of Human Services and Consumer Sciences. Members of the Council are selected for representation to the Council based on their involvement in departmental activities, service to the community, GPA, professional ethics and willingness to work toward improving the Department of Human Services and Consumer Sciences for the greater good.
