To kick off Law Week 2019, the Thurgood Marshall School of Law Bar Association hosted the screening of a documentary entitled, “The Strange Demise of Jim Crow.” The documentary, produced by Houston City Council Member Amanda Edwards, showed the behind-the-scenes negotiations regarding desegregation in Houston and how the participation by TSU student protestors in SIT-INS during the 60s in Houston impacted the city’s cultural landscape. It also spoke life into justice for those persons oppressed and victimized during one of the most pivotal periods in history. Dr. Halcyon Sadberry Watkins was one of the three TSU students who participated at the first sit-in in Houston and was present at the screening on Monday evening. She arrived prior to the event to meet with faculty, staff, students, and guests.
