Harris County Clerk Dr. Diane Trautman announced today that the University of Houston and Texas Southern University will serve as Early Voting and Election Day polling locations for the November 5, 2019 General and Special Elections.

“It’s so important for young people to be involved in the election process,” said Harris County Clerk Dr. Diane Trautman “These additional voting locations will make it easier for students, faculty and staff, as well as the surrounding communities to vote”.

University of Houston is home to over 46,000 students and nearly 7,000 faculty and staff. Texas Southern University, one of the nation’s largest historically black universities, has over 9,000 enrolled students. Each university has offered strong support of the additional polling locations.

“We are thrilled to open the University of Houston to voters for the upcoming election and are thankful to the Harris County Clerk’s office for making this opportunity possible. We embrace and encourage differing viewpoints, political or otherwise, on our campus. Hosting a polling station will allow convenient access for our thousands of students, faculty, staff and members of the community to exercise their civic right to vote,” said Jason Smith, UH Vice Chancellor/Vice President for Governmental Relations.

“Nothing is more precious than the right to vote,” said TSU President Dr. Austin A. Lane. “By making this more accessible for our students and the TSU community, we are helping to ensure that more voices are heard in our elections. Combined with other efforts at TSU to make sure that our students are registered to vote and kept informed about the election cycle, this will undoubtedly make a difference.”

Early Voting begins Monday, October 21 and the Harris County Clerk plans on having an additional 6 new locations for a total of 52 Early Voting locations. Additionally, all Early Voting locations will be open on Election Day.  All Early Voting and Election Day polling locations are subject to the approval of Commissioners Court.

On Election Day, voters in Harris County will be able to vote at any one of the more than 700 polling locations. For more information on the Countywide Polling Place Program and other elections information, visit www.HarrisVotes.com or call the Harris County Clerk’s office at 713.755.6965.
