TSU’s School of Business Welcomes New Advisory Council Member

The Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University announces the selection of Linda C. Toyota as an addition to the school’s Business Advisory Council. Toyota assumed her official appointment on September 9, 2019, and has already actively engaged with Dr. David Yen, newly-appointed dean of the School of Business.

Toyota is vice president of community engagement and development at LiftFund a nonprofit community development financial institution headquartered in San Antonio. It serves 14 states in the South-Central U.S., providing vital resources and affordable business loans to diverse customers.

Linda connects people, ideas and organizations, thriving in an environment that offers intellectual challenges and opportunities where she is able to discover, develop and present new ideas and concepts to help organizations grow. She has been incorporating diversity concepts and strategies throughout her life as she specializes in strategic fundraising, business development, non-profit management, and community engagement.

“The Jesse H. Jones School of Business welcomes Ms. Toyota and her stellar experience with a wide array of non-profit organizations recognizing that her contributions will be immeasurable,” remarked Dr. Yen, “We appreciate her willingness to make the JHJ School of Business at Texas Southern university a better place to study for our students and work for our faculty.”

Toyota commented, “I’m looking forward to provide insight into key areas of the school’s interest, and provide subject matter experts to engage with the programs of the school; my overall goal is to contribute to the continued success of the business school.”

Linda has worked with a wide array of non-profit organizations including Holocaust Museum Houston and Houston Technology Center and is past president of the Asian Chamber. She currently serves on the boards of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, Leadership Houston and advisory board of U.S. Global Leadership Coalition Texas Advisory Council.

JHJ School of Business received reaffirmation of accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) in June. The peer-review process requires excellence in strategic management and innovation as well as academic and professional engagement. The AACSB accreditation remains in force for five years. TSU was one of the first Historically Black Colleges/Universities (HBCUs) to achieve the standard set by the organization that confirms more than 800 business schools worldwide.

The School of Business, founded in 1955, offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, and an executive MBA program. The curriculum focuses on academic rigor and research in accounting, finance, management, marketing and other professional-related studies, such as internships and corporate partnerships.
