What to Expect when submitting an Incident Report.

Texas Southern University’s Office of Title IX is responsible for overseeing and enforcing the University’s Title IX Grievance and Sexual Misconduct Procedures.

Individuals who experience sexual discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual misconduct have the right to choose whether to report the incident to Texas Southern University’s Title IX Coordinator or University Police Department.

The Office of Title IX have specially trained individuals to work with individuals who report sex discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual misconduct and have knowledge about on and off campus resources, services, and options – including the availability of protective measures and university support measures.

Individuals identified as Complainants have the right to receive information about their rights and options, including the right to receive support measures, request university investigations, or file reports with police.

Individuals may report incidents anonymously and the Office of Title IX will accept them, be advised that the University’s ability to investigate and respond to anonymous reports is limited.

The Office of Title IX Staff are not confidential sources of support. While the Office of Title IX Staff will address incident reports and complaints with sensitivity and will keep information as private as possible, confidentiality is not promised or guaranteed.

University Employees are obligated to report incidents of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual misconduct, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking that they become aware of during the course of their employment, unless they are recognized as Confidential Employees. Texas Southern University encourages individuals to report incidents of sexual assault, sexual misconduct, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking to the Texas Southern University Police Department or the appropriate law enforcement agency. Prompt reporting to police is important to aid in successful investigation and prosecution of crimes. The reporting responsibilities of Texas Southern University Employees or the University’s responsibility to investigate, may conflict with the preferences of the Complainant and/or Respondent regarding privacy and confidentiality.

If an individual believes they have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or stalking, before requesting an investigation, an individual may wish to speak with a Confidential Resource person. Confidential Resources can help individuals consider the options available to them without judgement.
