The Center for Transportation Training and Research (CTTR) is a research arm of Texas Southern University and a companion to the Masters of Science program in Transportation Planning and Management. CTTR began in 1983 under the leadership of Dr. Naomi Lede, with a grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Currently, CTTR staff has amassed more than 150 years of direct transportation experience. The center's focus was on public transit, however, over the last 30 years the research has expanded to include highways, land use, evacuation planning, automated and connected vehicle technologies and other transportation components. Still, public transportation research remains strong and relevant to industry needs. Also, with the University's role as a special institution of higher education for urban programming in mind, CTTR's research continues to expand. In keeping with key aspects of smart growth, public engagement and inclusion of low income and minority persons in the mainstream of transportation planning and decision making will be an integral part of that growth.
