AGNES A. MONJOK earned a bachelor of arts in theatre and communication from the University of Calabar, Nigeria in 1985. In 2014 she earned a master’s degree in communication from Texas Southern University while holding a position as graduate assistant.
She teaches Media Studies in the department of RTF, in which students learn to examine, analyze and appreciate the evolution of the communication process, from innovations and devices from the 1800s to the convergence of the digital age. Her interests are on the new social media and intercultural communication, and its benefits in building bridges among immigrant communities. Agnes wrote her thesis on Facebook and its impact on Nigerians, who constitute one of the largest and progressive immigrant groups in Houston Texas.
Before she began teaching, Agnes had an extensive career as public relations executive for 17 years in higher education and was a television program host at CRTV in Nigeria. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America PRSA. Agnes is married with four children. She is widely traveled and has lived in four countries.
