Clyde E. Duncan, JR.

CLYDE E. DUNCAN, JR., Ph.D., earned two bachelor’s degrees in speech communication and sociology and two master’s degrees in speech communication and sociology from Texas Southern University. He received his Ph.D. in African American ministry from Newburgh Theological Seminary.

Duncan has served as an instructor in the School of Communication at TSU since 2001 and as an adjunct instructor at Houston Community College since 2008. Some of his teaching assignments have included courses in business and professional communication, public speaking, fundamentals of speech communication, introduction to communication, and interpersonal communication.

He is a licensed and ordained minister who served as assistant chaplain for the 1992 Olympic team in Barcelona, Spain, and the 1996 Olympic team in Atlanta, Georgia. He has traveled all over the world as a motivational speaker with a message of encouragement and inspiration.

He has also been the head cross country and assistant track and field coach at TSU from 1998-2006, developing several All-American student-athletes. Several of his student-athletes competed at the NCAA Championships, USA National Championships and the Olympic Trials. Most importantly, during his tenure as the head cross-country and assistant track and field coach at TSU, he had the highest percentage of graduation rates among his student-athletes.

He has been the “voice” (head announcer) for the TSU Relays for the past twelve years. He has also been the head announcer for various sporting events for over twenty years.

Dr. Duncan embraces this motto for his life:
“If he can help someone as he passes along;
If he can cheer someone with a word or song;
If he can tell someone that they are traveling wrong;
Then his living will not be in vain.”
