The Developmental Education Program is designed to foster the academic potential of students that will facilitate their progress during their matriculation at Texas Southern University. Providing academic-based opportunities for the enhancement intellectual growth, the Program engages faculty and students in the type of interactive learning that enables students to realize their capabilities to the fullest extent.

Developmental Education Course Offerings

Developmental Mathematics

Mathematics 130
Mathematics 130, Fundamental Mathematics, is designed to provide students with the concepts and skills necessary for successful performance in college level mathematics. It is designed to assist students in passing state-required tests such as COMPASS, ASSET, and THEA. The course will also provide the academic foundation for success in Mathematics 131.

Mathematics 131
Mathematics 131, Analytical Mathematics, is designed to provide students with the necessary mathematical foundation to pass freshman level mathematics courses. The course also assist students in passing state required academic assessment tests such as COMPASS, ASSET, and THEA.


Developmental English

English 129
English 129, Introduction to English Fundamentals, is designed to help students to develop college level writing proficiency and master the skills measured by state-required tests such as COMPASS, ASSET, and THEA.

English 130
English 130, English Fundamentals, is designed to further students' acquisition of college level writing proficiency and master of those skills measured by state-required tests such as COMPASS, ASSET, and THEA.

Developmental Reading

Reading 130
Reading 130, Basic Reading and Study Skills, offers interactive learning designed to improve the students' reading comprehension, study skills, and vocabulary building.
