TSU General Education Core – Essential Learning & Credit Transfer
The State of Texas has designed a general education core curriculum to equip undergraduate students with the knowledge and skills necessary for college, careers, communities, and lifelong success. At Texas Southern University (TSU), all students complete a 42 semester credit hour (SCH) program of core curriculum, covering communication, mathematics, life and physical sciences, philosophy, creative arts, American history, government, political science, and social and behavioral sciences.
This structured curriculum ensures seamless credit transfer among public colleges, universities, and health institutions in Texas. Students who complete the full 42-SCH core can transfer as "core complete" to another Texas institution without repeating courses. Those transferring before completion receive credit for successfully completed core classes, though these may not fully satisfy the core requirements of the receiving institution.
