Incoming freshman and transfer students must first apply and gain admittance into the university before becoming a music major.

Incoming Freshmen

Incoming students interested in pursuing a music degree must successfully audition on their principal instrument before declaring music as a major. This audition will help assess each student’s readiness to successfully matriculate through the music curriculum.

Transfer Students

Transfer music students must have a C or better in all music courses attempted. Transfer students interested in teacher certification should also have a 3.0 overall GPA in all coursework.

CONTINUING TSU STUDENTS

Current TSU students interested in changing their major to music should first seek guidance from their major advisor or Jacobie.Backstrom@tsu.edu, the music advisor, to better understand the additional time commitment a change would require.

As with incoming freshman, a successful audition on their principal instrument is required before continuing students may declare music as their major.
