Tau Beta Sigma – Honoring Women in Collegiate Marching Bands

Tau Beta Sigma

Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority was founded at Texas Tech University by Mrs. Wava Banes Turner Henry. Due to Texas corporate laws in 1946, its Alpha chapter designation was transferred to Oklahoma State University (OSU), where it was officially installed on March 26, 1946.

The Beta Omicron Chapter at Texas Southern University (TSU) emerged under James Hill Lark Jr.’s direction, petitioning for colonization. Assisted by the Tau Chapter at the University of Houston, National President Paula Cox Read approved the petition, initiating 12 Charter members on April 12, 1958, making Beta Omicron the 63rd chapter of Tau Beta Sigma.

This historic chapter continues to uphold its legacy, fostering leadership, service, and musical excellence in collegiate bands nationwide.
