The COVID-19 Hotline

Posted on Tuesday, July 14, 2020

As the novel Coronavirus swept the globe, the Student Health Services (SHS) team at Texas Southern University took a proactive approach and designed a COVID-19 Hotline for faculty, staff, and students in March. Members of the TSU community can report if they have tested positive for COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone who tested positive. They can also get their COVID-19 concerns addressed by TSU medical practitioners.

TSU’s COVID-19 Hotline is a recording line that allows people to leave certain information when they call. “This new COVID-19 hotline is a part of our ongoing effort to provide reliable, trusted information and support to our Tiger community,” said Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management Dr. Teresa McKinney.

“The health and well-being of our community remains our highest priority during these unprecedented times.”

Members of the Student Health Services team (SHS) received training through Coursera, a worldwide online learning platform, that equipped them to run the COVID-19 Hotline.

Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to call the COVID-19 Hotline including those who have

  • been physician-diagnosed with a positive COVID-19 case,
  • received a positive COVID-19 result from a lab, or
  • have been exposed to COVID-19.

“The information obtained from the Hotline is used to keep the TSU community safe by providing us with the information we need to follow up with people who have been exposed in an effort to slow down the spread of active disease on campus,” said Feloniece Davis-Marsaw, director of the Student Health Center.

The COVID-19 Hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To report your status, call (713) 313 – 5099. SHS has also established the COVID19@tsu.edu email address so Tigers can have their COVID-19 questions or concerns addressed by TSU medical practitioners.
