More than 70 Texas Southern University students, alumni, and community supporters rallied together in Austin for TSU Day at the Capitol. This critical advocacy day provided an opportunity to spotlight TSU’s legislative priorities and demonstrate the University’s impact on Texas’ economy, workforce, and future.
“We asked our supporters to stand with us in Austin as we advocate for the resources necessary to continue our mission of academic excellence and student success, and they answered the call,” said Dr. James White, Vice President for Governmental Relations and Civic Engagement. “I am pleased with the statement their presence made in the legislative chambers, and we look forward to continued engagement with the Texas Legislature where our legislative priorities are concerned.”
TSU’s top legislative priority is securing Institutional Enhancement Appropriations, which are essential to strengthening the University’s foundation. These funds support student success initiatives, workforce-driven academic programming, and modernized facilities that enhance operational efficiency.
Why Now?
“We are committed to building a strong Texas Southern,” said Brandon L. Simmons, Chairman of the TSU Board of Regents. “Investing in student success and career outcomes is how we achieve that goal. TSU is seeking increased funding to invest in the enhancement of academic programming that leads to credentials of value demanded by the thriving Texas economy, driving student success on our campus and beyond.”
