Ocean of Soul Auxiliary Squad Auditions – Registration & Requirements

The Texas Southern University Ocean of Soul Marching Band Female Auxiliary Squads welcome eligible incoming freshmen, transfer students, current students, and returning members to audition for an opportunity to join our auxiliary program.

Pre-registration is required for all candidates. Participants must meet applicable University academic and audition requirements and are expected to demonstrate a high level of preparation, professionalism, performance ability, and commitment.

Audition Dates

Flag & Twirler Auditions
    • Flag and Twirler auditions are held annually during the last weekend in April 2027. Additional information regarding registration, times, locations, and audition schedules will be provided to registered candidates.
Motion Auditions
    • Audition dates for the Motion Squad will be announced at a later date (TBA). Candidates are encouraged to check for updates and contact the Auxiliary staff for additional information.

General Requirements

    • Auditions are open to eligible incoming freshmen, transfer students, current students, and returning members.

    • Current and transfer student candidates must maintain a minimum 2.0 semester and cumulative GPA.

    • Incoming freshmen and transfer candidates must be admitted to Texas Southern University or have a pending application for admission for the applicable enrollment term.

    • Returning squad members are required to re-audition each year and are not guaranteed placement.

    • Previous participation does not guarantee selection. Returning members may also be evaluated based on prior performance, commitment, attendance, professionalism, conduct, and adherence to squad policies and procedures.

    • Candidates must meet all applicable University and Ocean of Soul eligibility requirements.

Audition Requirements

    • Candidates will be evaluated based on the skills and performance requirements associated with their respective squad.

      • Motion Squad: Dance skills, technique, performance, and movement execution.

      • Platinum Girls: Dance and baton-twirling skills.

      • Wave Squad: Dance and flag-twirling skills.

      • Candidates should demonstrate appropriate physical conditioning, flexibility, stamina, and endurance.

      • Evaluation areas may include technique, showmanship, energy, memorization, poise, enthusiasm, precision, presentation, and individual style.

      • Previous experience with a marching band auxiliary, dance team, flag line, or twirling program is highly recommended but not required unless otherwise specified.

Audition Attire & Appearance

Candidates should arrive prepared and dressed in the designated audition attire:

    • Black sports bra or fitted crop top

    • Black dance shorts

    • Skin-tone shimmer tights

    • Appropriate dance shoes or sneakers

Candidates should maintain a polished and performance-ready appearance. Hair should be styled so that it does not obstruct the face. Additional attire, appearance, and preparation requirements may be communicated to registered candidates before auditions.

Registration Confirmation

Pre-registration is required to participate in auditions. Once registration has been received, candidates will receive confirmation and additional information regarding audition procedures, schedules, preparation requirements, and other important details.
