Texas Southern University National Alumni Association Held its 2019 Alumni Convention
The Texas Southern University National Alumni Association held its 2019 Alumni Convention
July 26-28 in Austin, TX. Filled with current students, convention veterans and first-time
convention attendees, supporters were enthused and excited to keep their alumni connection
to the university.
President Austin Lane and members of the institution’s staff presented the “State
of the University” highlighting both long and short-term plans to ensure sustainability
and the university’s recognition as one of the best higher education institutes in
North America.
Keith Scott, president of the National Alumni Association, said, “I was amazed at
the passion and commitment of our Maroon and Gray alumni.”
“Several new Deans, Regents, the Athletic Director, Head Football Coach, and Head
Basketball Coach were introduced and everyone seemed to be excited about the bright
new future for our students and university.”
At this year’s Awards Luncheon, several TSU alumnus were recognized for their leadership
and dedication to lead the alumni charge. Dr. Merline Pitre, a retired Dean of the
Texas Southern University College of Liberal Arts & Behavioral Sciences and author
of “Born to Serve: A History of Texas Southern University,” served as the keynote
speaker.
