Eligibility

To be eligible for the Texas Southern University Dual Enrollment program, students must:

Grade Level: Be currently enrolled in grades 9-12.
Authorization: Obtain approval from a high school counselor or administrator, as well as a parent or legal guardian.
Academic Standing: Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on their high school transcript (Note: Specific partner school districts may require a higher threshold).
College Readiness: Demonstrate readiness in Reading, Writing, and/or Mathematics as required by the Texas Success Initiative (TSI), unless a qualifying exemption (SAT/ACT/STAAR) is provided.
Health & Safety: Provide proof of a current Bacterial Meningitis vaccination or booster if attending any in-person classes on the TSU campus. Students will not be registered for on-campus courses until this documentation is verified. (This requirement is waived for students enrolled exclusively in 100% online courses).

Step-by-Step Enrollment Guide

Apply to TSU: Complete the online application via ApplyTexas by the published deadline.
Receive Your Student ID: After your application is processed, TSU will assign you a "T-Number" (Student ID). Save your TSU student ID number once application processing is complete.
Submit Credentials: Provide official high school transcripts and TSI scores.
Vaccination Proof: Submit proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination if attending classes on the TSU campus.
Coordinated Advising: Work with your counselor and TSU staff to select and register for courses.
Financial Acknowledgement: Complete all financial steps and acknowledgements through the MyTSU Web Portal.
Canvas / LMS Access: Log into CANVAS, review syllabus, assignments, due dates, and announcements.
Student Orientation: Complete orientation before class starts.
First Day of Class: Attend, participate, and complete first-week tasks.
Progress Check-Ins: Monitor grades weekly and ask for help early.
Final Grade / Transcript Record: Final grade becomes part of the official TSU college record.

Guidelines

Students enrolled in TSU Dual Enrollment:

Course Load: May enroll in up to two (2) courses each Fall and Spring term.
Enrollment in additional hours requires specific approval from the Office of the
Provost.
Advising: Will receive academic advising through the Dual Enrollment Office in coordination with their high school counselor to ensure courses align with
graduation tracks.
Financial Aid: Are not eligible for federal or state financial aid while still
enrolled in high school.
Curriculum Focus: Are generally restricted to the Texas Common Core Curriculum or foreign language courses to ensure maximum transferability.
Conduct: Are members of the Tiger community and must adhere to all University rules, regulations, and the Student Code of Conduct.
Academic Record: Grades earned are permanent and will appear on the student’s official Texas Southern University transcript.
UIL Eligibility: High school designees should verify that participating in university-level curriculum does not impact the student's UIL competition eligibility.

How to Apply

Texas Public/Private High School Students

TSU partners with school districts to offer courses that mirror the rigor and excellence of our traditional freshman experience.

Complete the Online Application: Submit your application via
ApplyTexas.org.
- Application Type: Freshman, Undergraduate.
- Student Type: Dual Enrollment.
Verify Partnership: Ensure your high school has an active MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with TSU. If not, your counselor should contact the Dual Enrollment Office.
Submit Documentation via the MyTSU Portal:
- TSU Dual Enrollment Approval Form: Signed by counselor and parent.
- Official High School Transcript: Including current GPA.
- TSI Scores: Or proof of exemption (SAT/ACT scores).
- Bacterial Meningitis Record: Required only for on-campus learners.
Confirm Your "T-Number": Once processed, you will receive your TSU Student ID (T-Number). Use this to set up your MyTSU and Canvas accounts.

Texas Homeschool Students

Homeschool students can experience the prestigious TSU academic environment, taking the same courses from the same world-class faculty as our full-time students.

Complete the Online Application: Submit via ApplyTexas.org.
- Academic History: Select "Home School/Individual Family."
Provide Required Documentation:
- Home School Agreement: A signed agreement between the family and
  TSU.
- Official Home School Transcript: Signed and notarized.
- TSI Scores or Exemptions.
- Proof of Vaccination: (If attending classes on the Houston campus).

Out-of-State Students

High-achieving students from outside of Texas can build their college transcripts early through TSU’s premier online course offerings. Enjoy the instructional rigor of a top-tier HBCU from anywhere in the country.

Complete the Online Application: Submit via ApplyTexas.org.
Provide Credentials: Submit official high school transcripts and any relevant standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) to the TSU Admissions Office.
Online Orientation: Out-of-state students must complete a virtual orientation to familiarize themselves with the Canvas LMS and TSU’s online library resources.

Future Tigers Aviation (Pilot/Drone) & Maritime

Specific pathways exist for students interested in STEM. These tracks may involve hands-on lab experiences on the Texas Southern University’s campus

Requirement: Must be approved by Chair/Dean of College and ISD counselor.
Requirement: Must be able to attend designated lab hours on the TSU campus if the course is hybrid.
