Meet Dr. Ashton Denzel Jones: Lyric Baritone & Choral Conductor
Dr. Ashton Denzel Jones, a renowned lyric baritone and choral conductor, has performed with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Cimarron Opera Company, and Varna Opera in Bulgaria. His repertoire includes roles such as Dr. Gregg in Gallantry, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Bluff in Die Schauspieldirektor, and Monsieur Pandolf in Cendrillon. As a soloist, he has appeared with Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, Tulsa Signature Symphony, and Elgin Symphony Orchestra, performing works like Handel’s Messiah and Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs.
With over 15 years of experience in church music, Dr. Jones has served as a pianist, organist, and director across multiple states. His extensive teaching career spans secondary and collegiate education, with students advancing to Carnegie Mellon University, Wichita State University, and the University of Kansas. He has held leadership roles, including Director of Choral Activities at Langston University and Director of Choirs at Brazosport High School.
Dr. Jones is an active member of NATS, TCDA, TMEA, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He holds degrees from Texas Southern University, Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory. Currently, he serves as Director of Choral Activities at Texas Southern University, dedicated to advancing choral excellence and fostering artistic growth.
