Aging and Intergenerational Resources

Supporting Older Adults & Caregivers

The Center On The Family Aging & Intergenerational Resources is committed to enhancing the quality of life for older adults through comprehensive education, training, referral services, and community engagement. By mobilizing campus and community efforts, the Center connects existing resources to create an intergenerational, community-based support system for aging populations.

With a special focus on empowering family caregivers and older adults, the Center provides current, relevant information and educational programs to address the growing complexities of aging, particularly within minority communities. Additionally, it serves as a training ground for students pursuing careers in gerontology, equipping them with essential skills to meet the evolving needs of an aging society.

Our services allow us to continue to mobilize the efforts of the campus and the community while identifying and linking existing resources to form a comprehensive, intergenerational community-based delivery system for an aging society and the family caregivers. All program and services are supported in part by the following:

  • Texas Southern University
  • Houston-Galveston Area Council Area Agency on Aging
  • The City of Houston acting as the Harris County Area Agency on Aging
  • The Texas Department on Aging and Disability Service

Health Maintenance Topics

Caregivers may experience physical illness, depression, grief, and changes in their own relationships as a result of the care they provide.Stepping Stones To Healthy Aging is a series designed to bring awareness to the emotional and health risks of older adults as well as the caregivers. Each of the topics includes background information, interactive discussion, hands-on activities and consumer handouts.
